San Diego Pride's special guest list continues to grow in attendance.

San Diego Pride is drawing near and adding to the already long list of important guests attending will be the first openly gay man to serve as Secretary of the Army, Eric Fanning.

Fanning as you may remember was nominated by President Obama for the prestigious military position, but Senator Pat Roberts held the nomination for issues he had with the president about the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

Eventually the matter was settled between Obama and Roberts and Fanning was confirmed on May 17, 2016, to become the highest ranking gay official in the Department of Defense.

Fanning will attend the Spirit of Stonewall rally in San Diego on July 15, where he will give the keynote address.

He will also be the honorary Grand Marshal in the military contingent in the parade on July 16.

“I am humbled to be the keynote speaker and an honorary Grand Marshal.  As our community moves forward, we strive for full inclusion of all Americans who can do the job, and just want an opportunity to serve the Nation they love,” said Fanning.
