Interstate 5/Genesee Avenue Interchange Project, which has been under construction for three years will officially open today with Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, Assemblyman Todd Gloria and San Diego City Councilwoman Barbara Bry in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The $117.4-million project began in February 2015 expanding the overpass from six to 10 lanes with the freeway on-ramps also widened.
A bicycle and pedestrian bridge was also constructed that connects the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station to nearby schools, employers, and hospitals.
The San Diego Bike Coalition and UC San Diego SPIN are expected to attend the ribbon-cutting as well.
