A large section of freeway in Mission Valley on State Route 163, between Genesee Avenue and Interstate 8 will close next week in order to do work on a Friars Road bridge project
According to ABC 10 News beginning on Monday, September 17 at 11 pm, southbound lanes will be closed until 5 am. This schedule will also be in place for September 18.
Caltrans says all northbound lanes will close on Wednesday, Sept. 19 and Thursday, Sept. 20 from 11:30 pm to 5 am.
Caltrans officials said some lanes could begin to close as early as 7 pm.
Eastbound and westbound I-8 ramps to northbound SR-163 will be closed, as will the eastbound Friars Road on-ramp to northbound SR-163
The Genesee Avenue on-ramp to northbound SR-163 will remain open during the construction.
This is a $40 million project that will widen SR-163 and repair off-ramps, this will hopefully ease some traffic concerns and improve safety for bikers and pedestrians.
