The County of San Diego announced on Friday that they will be sending out an alarm on June 27 to test out their earthquake early warning system.

Much like an Amber Alert, all cellphones will receive the alarm at about 11 am in the morning.

This test is conducted by the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and the United States Geological Survey.

ShakeAlert, California's early earthquake alarm system, if used successfully could save lives by giving people time to prepare.

A similar type of technology is also used to issue severe weather conditions alerts.

The alarm is set to go off on Thursday, June 27 at 11 am.
